As you can see, the KVFD is in the process of a major reconstruction.  Michael S. Queen was named the new executive fire officer early in 2002 and the Department has secured  a FEMA grant to install a home fire sprinkler in the Kasaan School to serve as a model for the remainder of the homes in the village, population 54.  Nearly half of village residents fall into the FEMA at-risk population (children under 14 years of age and senior citizens over 65) and a primary KVFD goal is to sprinkler as many homes in the village as possible.  

Blessed with a public water system and fire hydrants, Kasaan has hose boxes installed at the nine hydrant locations throughout the village and virtually all homes are within reach of a hydrant and hose.  The KVFD is checking hydrants and hose, repairing and refurbishing as necessary; and new hose and air bottle racks are being built and installed in the Fire Hall.

The Kasaan Fire Hall is part of a proposed City Maintenance Facility extension and sometime in the near future we will have a bay for our ambulance and apparatus repairs.  Wish us luck!
